Occult Findings Ep.07: The Lunar Hour

Commonly called the Dreaming Hour, its presence can be felt closest to our world. Adepts with a sensitivity to this hour tend to direct their expressions of its power in a cycle that follows the moon’s waxing and waning. Commonly called Clairvoyants, their abilities are displayed primarily through their intuition. They share a collective dream world sustained by the Lunar Hour. Shy, artistic creatives, these adepts instead of affecting the physical world draw themselves into their world of dreams. A fantasy realm where their skills can reach maximum potential. Often, they are propelled back into our world as the moon diminishes.

This hour tends to have influence over rainstorms and fog. The spirits of the dead ride the Lunar currents to remain in our world and phantasmic illusions can be produced by manipulating the Lunar flow. The Hourlies conjured from the Lunar realm are called Phantoms. They arrive in this world as mists, rolling on a gentle breeze and often have a ghostly appearance making them difficult to physically describe. However, these phantoms, through the direction of Clairvoyants, can incarnate into the dreamworld upheld by the Lunar hour.

Within the realm of dreams, Fae folk, Trolls, Giants, Elves and other legendary creatures make their home. As Clairvoyants pass into the world some develop to such an extent as to adapt their being to this inner world and are welcomed by the Dreaming Hour as Lunar Champions. These special adepts can direct the expansion of the dream world and even detect and attract other souls with Lunar proclivities. Under these adepts, the creatures from the dream world can for a time emerge into our own. This crossing has been recorded and embellished in the many legends throughout history and across cultures.

For most Lunar adepts the Dreamworld only opens during the full moon. Those that have a strong desire can enter but as the moon wanes they will find themselves somehow back in the physical realm. Many Adepts can and have succumbed to mental breaks finding their true self locked within the dreaming. This world with all its pressures and concerns becomes a snare and in many of these cases, a mental lapse or fracturing occurs.

Spirits passed from this world, especially those that died as a result of a failed magical experiment tend to be trapped in this world under the sway of the Lunar hour. Many of these wretched dead are given final peace by the Clairvoyants. To live a life immersed within the Lunar Hour is to never be bored; with constant adventures with mythological creatures, you will fare through the dreams of mortals. The Lunar Hour is a composite of fantastic inspiration and broken madness. Those who cannot withstand the dichotomy between the imaginary and the real will often be consumed by both.
